Friends of the Selinsgrove Community LibraryBoard MeetingWednesday, January 11, 2006
Present: Officer Reports PresidentElizabeth Heim called the meeting to order. New officers (Treasurer, Walt Hagenbuch) and board members (Margaret Siro) were welcomed.Liz advised that last year Friends received three donations of $100 each in honor of various individuals. In 2006 we have received more than $100 in honoraria to acknowledge all the hard work and dedication provided to Friends by Carol and Charles Bull. Vice President Deb Bernhisel reported that Pat Wendt will be the President of the Snyder County Libraries Board in 2006. Their January meeting will be held on the fourth Tuesday of the month, which is Jan. 24th. Pat Wendt will no longer be able to be the Friend’s Library Board Liaison; a new liaison will be designated at the January 24th meeting. SecretaryThe minutes of the December 14th meeting were approved. TreasurerJanis reported that Friends had contributed a total of $10,385.00 to the library for 2005. The Treasure’s report was approved. Liz read a letter from the Library Board thanking Friends for their recent $10,000 contribution for the Library’s Wish List Items. Library ReportsLibrarian- Barbara Mc Gary discussed the launching of the Storymobile in February. Sherry Sellars will go every week to each of the libraries to do storytelling for preschoolers. Barbara mentioned the special celebration, January 16th at 2PM in the library for the life and works of Martin Luther King. Barbara hopes to have an Open House after the new purchases are in the library. Committee ReportsTree Fest- The net profit after expenses for the 2005 Tree Fest was $1,097.67. 2006 should have a larger net profit because it is not necessary to purchase any more trees. The group agreed that Tree Fest is a positive awareness raising event. A motion was made by Joyce Bilger and seconded by Janis Gemberling to continue Tree Fest as a fundraiser and awareness raiser. The motion passed to hold Tree Fest in 2006. Crocks- Joyce will place an ad in the Snyder County Times for the sale of the crocks. Suggestions were made to put an ad in the Susquehanna University paper- the Crusader and to advertise in the SU Bookstore. The Crock committee is considering two different crocks to sell for 2006, one of a Selinsgrove landmark and one of Susquehanna University. Book Sale 2006- Liz said that Betsy Fordan suggested that since the Book Sale takes so much work- that maybe we should extend the time for more days. Liz said she would find out when other groups were having book sales. Discussion Topics and Updates Grace Housley made a motion and Pat Reiland-Hess seconded to give the library staff a Kind Café Gift Certificate for all their hard work. The motion passed. Walt, Janis, and Liz are meeting to discuss the 2006 Budget. Membership Drive- Liz has constructed on Excel a mail out list to solicit for membership. The list is derived from Tree Fest attendees, current membership, and 2005 crock buyers. Liz reminded everyone that at the end of the 2006, three officers would be leaving their position. A Nominating Committee will need to be formed. Joyce made a motion and Janice seconded to adjourn the meeting. The next Friends of the Selinsgrove Community Library board meeting will be Wednesday, February 8, 2006.
