Board Meeting
Wednesday, February 8, 2006

Officer Reports
President
Elizabeth Heim called the meeting to order. Liz then
announced changes and additions.
1.
Lynn
Askew attended and was welcomed as the new Snyder County Libraries Board
Liaison.
2.
Margaret
Siro, a new board member effective 1/1/06, will spearhead Friends
advocacy.
3.
Liz Heim
and Margaret Siro will attend the 20th Institute For Trustees
and Friends Convention on April 21-22 in Harrisburg. Liz will
participate (representing Friends groups for small libraries) on a 3
member panel “That’s What Friends Are For: A Panel of Success Stories.
Registration forms were passed out to everyone in attendance.
4.
Barbara
McGary has arranged for Liz Heim to be trained on website maintenance.
Secretary
The minutes of the January 11th meeting were approved.
Treasurer
Walt Hagenbuch distributed the Treasurer’s Report. The
account balance as of 1/31/06 is $11,892.81. Any petty cash remaining
will be added to the bank account and there will be no more petty cash
funds allocated as it is too difficult to track them. The Treasure’s
report was approved.
Walt announced that Friends would need to find a new Treasuer
in early summer 2006 as he and Sandra will be relocating to Boston, MA.
He will be missed.
Library Reports
Librarian- Barbara Mc Gary discussed the possibility of the
Beavertown Library selling their own crocks. They would like some input
from Friends.
After discussion, Joyce agreed to give information on our crock sale to
assist the Beavertown Library.
Families Learning,
Family Literacy, Dept. of Ed. will not be funding the Selinsgrove
Library’s Summer Reading Program. Barbara requested help from Friends;
she will also be preparing a grant request for additional funding.
Janis
motioned and Linda seconded to contribute $2,000 from Friends to the
Library to help support the Summer Reading Program. The motion passed to
give the Library $2,000 to help support the Summer Reading Program.
Barbara
McGary requested help with stuffing envelopes and adding labels during
the Snyder County solicitation months in June and December. Our group
agreed to provide assistance.
The
Snyder County Libraries Newsletter has been published. It is full of
new book selections and reviews, programs and services, plus a calendar
of events. Cheers to Betsy Fordon for her creativity.
Committee
Reports
Crocks- Linda
announced that 2005 crocks are still available. She and Joyce are
considering designs for the 2006 crock.
Quilt Raffle-
Linda will be making a quilt selection for the next quilt raffle. She
would like to incorporate this in the newsletter.
Book Sale 2006- Liz reviewed the dates of other group’s book
sales. We have selected Friday and Saturday April 28th & 29th
for the sale. Setup will be Thursday April 27th. The
Community Room is still the best location for the sale.
Discussion Topics and
Updates
Liz distributed the 2006 Budget which was prepared by Liz
Heim, Janis Gemberling and Walt Hagenbuch and forecasts a profit of
12,650. The 2006 budget was approved.
Membership Drive-
Liz said that 387 letters were mailed for the membership drive. Last
year we had 95 members; currently we have 26. Liz advised that mailing
387 letters cost only $61.19 at bulk mail rates versus $150.93 if sent
non-bulk. We should use bulk mail wherever possible.
Linda made a motion and Lynn seconded to adjourn the meeting.
The next Friends of the Selinsgrove Community Library board meeting
will be Wednesday, March 8, 2006.
