Officer Reports
President
Elizabeth Heim called the meeting to order. Liz discussed
2006 membership (solicitation mailing was Feb. 8). Last
month we had 26 members; we now have 83.
Liz mentioned that buying the book cart was being
reconsidered since the free book box seems to be working well. Perhaps a
file cabinet would be more useful.
The March newsletter was passed around for members to see.
It was agreed to list members’ name in the newsletter. The newsletter
will be sent to all 2006 members and even 2005 members who have not
renewed – with a reminder that we haven’t received renewal and they
won’t get any more newsletters unless renewal is received. We are
looking for a name for our Friends Newsletter.
Secretary
The minutes of the February 8th meeting should be amended to
read that Linda Wieder, not Joyce Bilger, agreed to give information on
our crock sale to assist the Beavertown Library. The minutes were
approved subject to this correction.
Vice President
The Snyder County
Library Board is getting a stand-alone building schematic completed.
Next building committee meeting is March 30th at 6pm.
Eat at Hoss Night Benefit – July 10 and Dec. 5 - 20% of the bill will go
to the Snyder County Library System. Cards will be available at the
library. We’ll mention these dates in the June Friends newsletter.
Treasurer
Walt Hagenbuch reported income of $1,305.00 and expenses of
$667.69 for a net income of $637.31 in February. The checking account
balance as of 2/28/06 is $12,530.12. The Treasurer’s report was
approved.
Library Reports
Library Board Liaison- Lynn Askew – mentioned that more
people are needed on the library building committee; Margaret Siro
volunteered to serve on this committee.
Librarian- Barbara McGary discussed the library’s mass
project of weeding old books to make room for new. The library staff is
donating hours for this effort. Books will be given to Friends for the
Book Sale. There are specific criteria used to make the book selections
for weeding.
A number of events are being held at the library in
conjunction with National Library Week, among them April 5th,
honoring Friends and volunteers, and an April 6th celebration
of the Snyder County Library System 30th anniversary. Joyce
motioned and Deborah seconded to contribute $100 from Friends of the
Library to fund the reception for the 30th Anniversary
celebration. The motion passed to give the library $100 for the 30th
Anniversary reception on April 6th.
Committee Reports
Merchandise-
Margaret reported on the cost of the tote bags and the design/color.
Lapel pins were passed around as possible merchandise for resale. The
book sale would be a good sale venue. A minimum order of 60 pins is
required at $7:50 per pin. Liz will check with Degenstein Friends to
see if they would split an order with us. This will be discussed at
next meeting. Members gave Margaret a big round of applause for all her
hard work.
Crocks- Joyce
announced that there are approximately 100 crocks still available for
purchase from 2005.
Book Sale 2006- The Friends book sale bookmark has
been developed and 1000 will be ordered. We also have Book Bucks – “play
money” in $1.00 denomination to be redeemed at the book sale. Book
Bucks are for members only. Book Bucks and bookmarks will be mailed
with the March newsletter.
Discussion Topics and
Updates
A
nominating Committee is needed.
Lynn made a motion and Joyce seconded to adjourn the meeting at 6:40
p.m..
The next Friends of the Selinsgrove Community Library board meeting
will be Wednesday, April 12, 2006.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara
