Minutes for the Friends of the Selinsgrove Library
April 11, 2007

Attendance. Linda Wieder, Joyce Bilger, Janis Gemberling, Liz, Heim, Patty Gaugler, Joyce Hendricks, Pat Reiland-Hess, Grace Housley, Lynn Askew, Deborah Bernhisel.

Secretary’s Report. The secretary’s report was accepted with the following corrections:

  • Patty Gaugler, not Patty Gauya, was in attendance.
  • Joyce Bilger reported on the crocks. 35 Selinsgrove High School crocks remain.
  • Emily Johnson moved and Pat Hess seconded a motion that Joyce Bilger places an order for 400 crocks with the Rolling Green Park design for the 2007 crock sale.
  • Joyce Hendricks presented the updated posters and bookmarks advertising the sale.

Treasurer’s Report. $14,610.81 balance in the checking account. Grace Housley moved and Lynn Askew seconded a motion to accept the treasurer’s report as presented.

The group discussed the possibility of investing money earned on special projects, possibly the Susquehanna Sesquicentennial crocks project. This is something for continued discussion at a future date.

 REPORTS

Snyder County Library Board Report.

  • The process continues in the search for a head librarian.
  • The feasibility study has arrived.

Emily Johnson’s Communication. Emily suggested that the Friends group create a position statement to share with the Board relevant to the building of the new library. It was suggested that Lynn Askew ask the Board how Friends can be supportive in their work toward a new library.

 COMMITTEE REPORTS

Merchandise. No report.

 Crocks.

  • Lynn Askew reported that we are awaiting the prototype of the Susquehanna Sesquicentennial crock.
  • Joyce Bilger indicated that the prototype of the Rolling Green crock should be available before our May meeting. As soon as the prototype arrives, Joyce Hendricks will prepare a Press Release.
  • There are 28 Selinsgrove High School crocks remaining.
  • Beverly Curry charges $25 for a presentation, but she is on call to babysit her grandson. Lynn Askew will contact Jim Campbell to see if he has any information about Rolling Green Park.
  • Idea. Perhaps we could sponsor a special unveiling of the Rolling Green Park crock which includes “park history”.

Membership Update. There are presently 95 memberships (124 individuals), 18 of which are new.

Book Sale Update. Liz Heim is checking Friends of the Friends website as a source to purchase leftover books from the Book Sale. Liz and Joyce Hendricks distributed publicity for the Book Sale and Raffle. Liz is organizing the workers.

Treefest Update. There have been come committee changes. May 1 is the deadline for repeat decorators. 10 people are waiting a chance to decorate a tree.

 MISC ITEMS

We received a thank you from West Branch Chapter of the Pennsylvania Library Association for our support of their 2007 Spring Socials and their upcoming workshop.

 Meeting adjourned.

 Respectfully submitted,

Deborah Bernhisel
