Friends of the Selinsgrove Library Meeting Minutes
May 9, 2007
Present.
Patty Gaugler, Janis Gemberling, Barbara McGary, Linda Wieder, Lynn
Askew, Grace Housley, Liz Heim, Joyce Hendricks, Deborah Bernhisel
Secretary's Report. Lynn Askew moved and Linda Wieder seconded a motion
to accept the minutes. The motion carried.
Treasurer's Report. $12,835.12 in the checking account.
Vice-President's Report. No report.
Lynn Askew.
* Trustees Workshop - Lynn recommends the experience.
* The Library Board is presently looking at sites for the new library.
* Snyder County Board members are needed for 2008. Applications are
available.
* Penn Tech workshop: The How and Now of Library Design
Communicating the needs
*Funding a location
Liz Heim. Trustees and Friends Institute
* Governor Rendell's budget proposes an increase of $250,000 statewide.
We could use a 3.5% increase.
* Snyder County presently receives $144,000 in state funding
Barbara McGary. Pam Ross begins June 4 as new Director of Libraries for
Snyder County.
Joyce Bilger. County Commissioners' Meeting
* Looking into the land at the point of 522 for the library
* Grant money of $25,000 for feasibility study (Commissioners wanted an
update on progress)
* Positive response from Commissioners on possible sites
Book Sale Update.
* $1,026.85 profit from sale
* American Rescue Workers took the books remaining after the sale
* There was a lot of help to set up and tear down.
* Liz Heim was able to sell some books on line, >but 200 entries
resulted in 4 sales.
Access Susquehanna. Good response to the >tri-fold display Patty Gaugler
put together.
Merchandise. Emily Johnson and her husband >worked with a Susquehanna
student to produce a series of notecards. The first set is of cupolas on
buildings owned by Susquehanna University. A set of 10 cards and
envelopes could be sold for $5. The next step is to meet with President
Lemons.
SU Crocks.
* The prototypes arrived minus a Friends' stamp and a place for
numbering the issues. This needs to be added.
* By consensus the group selected the belly crock design.
* Sales should begin in the Fall of 2007 with >advertising available in
Susquehanna Today.
* By June meeting: cost of mailing crocks directly and a deadline for
placing orders.
Publicity. No new report.
Membership. 102 members
TreeFest. 15 decorators committed for 2007. A new brochure is in the
works. The next Treefest meeting is at 7 PM on May 9.
Newsletter. June was to be the first combined newsletter for Friends and
the library; however, the decision was made to not join the newsletters.
Additional Information.
* Friends of the Selinsgrove Library bags will be available at Mrs.
Green jeans on Market Street.
* Quilt Raffle tickets. We may need more in order to mail them.
