June 13, 2007

Present. Lynn Askew, Grace Housley, Linda Wieder, Joyce Bilger, Joyce Hendricks, Liz Heim, Patty Gaugler, Emily Johnson, Janis Gemberling, Pat Hess, Barbara McGary, Pam Ross, Bob Maurer.

Vice-President’s Report. No bags have been sold at Mrs. Green Jeans.

Secretary’s Report. Liz Heim moved and Lynn Askew seconded a motion to accept the minutes of the last meeting as presented. The motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report. Joyce Bilger moved and Linda Wieder seconded the motion to accept the treasurer’s report. The motion carried.

 Library Report.

  • Pam Ross began her position as Director of the Snyder County Libraries. She came to this position from Priestley-Forsyth Library in Northumberland.
  • “Get a Clue,” the Summer Reading Program, is under way.
  • An Artist in Residence in Summer Program is being funded by the Perry County Council of the Arts during 2007. The only stipulation is that the program be funded locally for 2008.
  • PaLA requested funding for refreshments at the annual conference. After reviewing the request, Liz Heim made a motion seconded by Grace Housley that the request be denied on the grounds that The Friends of the Selinsgrove Library already funded activities for the local group and decided not to contribute additional money in 2007. The motion carried.

 Library Funding Advocate.

Liz Heim announced the need for all of us to become advocates for library funding on a state level. She shared information from a recent newsletter

Crock Report. The prototype for Rolling Green is here. We may have crocks for Antiques on the Isle. Crock will be available for the Selinsgrove Street Fair. The crocks will be sold for $40 each. The mailing will be prepared on Tuesday beginning at 10 AM in the Borough Building meeting room.

SU Crocks. The committee is still waiting for the logistics on the mail order possibilities. Liz Heim moved and Emily Johnson seconded a motion to order 100 crocks to be sold at SU at an order price not to exceed $21 each. The motion carried. The sale price remains to be determined.

Extra Crocks. Patty Gaugler volunteered to post the unsold Governor Snyder crocks for sale on Ebay. Patty Gaugler moved, seconded by Emily Johnson, that the Friends reimburse her for the cost of posting two crocks on Ebay for one month. The motion carried.

Quilt Raffle. Tickets will be mailed on Monday.

Tent. Joyce Bilger moved and Linda Wieder seconded a motion to purchase an Easy-up Tent for use by the Friends of the Selinsgrove Library from Eva Hurlimar at a cost of $100. The tent would be for use at community events like the Selinsgrove Street Fair and Antiques on the Isle. The motion carried.

 Treefest/ Fundraising Update.

  • Emily Johnson moved and Janis Gemberling seconded a motion to purchase 500 Smencils at $265 for sale as a merchandising item for Treefest. The motion carried with the stipulation that the purchase not be made until after September 1.
  • At present there are 27 tree and 12 wreaths confirmed for Treefest.

 Newsletter. Ready to be mailed.

Notecards. Emily Johnson reported that the notecards fundraiser hit a small glitch and therefore preparation will be delayed.

 Miscellaneous.

  • Tiesha Swinton, a Susquehanna University student and a member of Sigma Gamma Rho, approached the library about the possibility of doing a special project with the library similar to something done at Bucknell University. The library staff will be working with her should the project materialize.
  • Bob Maurer asked about the possibility of a Wall of Remembrance for the library. At present no policy for procedures exists, but the idea is worthy of consideration. Donations could go directly to the library.

 Dates to Remember.

  • July 15             Antiques on the Isle
  • September 22   Selinsgrove Street Fair

 Next Meeting. September 12

 Respectfully submitted,

Deborah M. Bernhisel
