Friends Funding to
Library 2008

We set a record
this year! Friends of the
Selinsgrove Community Library donated $15,000 to Snyder County
Libraries in 2008. This contribution will be used to fund the
library's 2009 "Wish List" (see below).
Summer Reading
Program - $3,500
Our numbers were up
even more this year, and we hope to get even higher numbers next
year! I would like to get a better selection of performers for the
program next year. Hence, the slightly higher request of funding.
Family
Place - $500
$500 is needed
annually to provide yearly upgrades to our Family Place as part of
our preschool connection grant. Upgrades will include new materials
for our pre-reading learning stations, books, free play materials
and program expenses.
Young Adult
Collection – $3,500
Both the YA Fiction
and Non-Fiction collection needs to be updated. This is an age
group that we need to focus on more, and it needs to begin with a
stronger collection to draw them into the library.
Reference
Collection- $ 3,500
I would like to
update the adult collection, and to create separate children’s
reference section.
Ellison Die
Machine and Dies - $2,000
This machine, along
with the dies, would allow us to cut out shapes and letters to use
for story time crafts, displays, bulletin boards, etc.
Fiona Siobhan
Powell, Storyteller - $800
Ms. Powell is a
local storyteller. I would like to bring her in for a family event
in March or April.
Tumblebooks -
$800
This is a fun,
educational web-based program that offers “e-books” (audio books
that can be accessed online. Also has animated illustrations, as
well as highlighting of the words as they are being read), as well
as educational literacy games. This program can be accessed from
any computer connected to the internet through our webpage. This
would be a program to replace Dial-A-Story, which was also funded by
Friends. If this program is a success the first year (based on
statistics which we can view each month), this would be something
that would require annual funding.
MP3 Players -
$400
These would be used
to boost the use of our new downloadable audio books, as well allow
us to offer even more title choices for patrons. The MP3’s would be
able to be checked out and we could download titles on to them for
the patron, or they could download titles themselves from home.
This is a great way to encourage and allow patrons to use technology
that they may not be able to afford themselves.

Since 2003, Friends of the Selinsgrove Community Library
has contributed $67,000 to the Snyder County Libraries.
Many of the enhanced collections, programs and services
that are acquired through these donations benefit all of
the Snyder County libraries. |
