Annual Report to Members 2007
Friends have been very busy during 2007. While we raised
money for our library through various fundraising events, we have
also helped raise awareness through attendance and participation in
the program of the statewide 21st Annual Institute for
Trustees and Friends.
Friends Newsletter “Phoenix” Wins Award
Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries (PCBL) has awarded their
2007 Friends Newsletter of the Year Award to the Friends of the
Selinsgrove Community Library for Phoenix. PCBL is an
organization of advocates that speaks for libraries throughout
Pennsylvania. The award was presented on Sunday October 14 at the

to be the recipient of this prestigious award. Special recognition

21st Annual Institute for Trustees and Friends
The 21st
Annual Institute for Trustees and Friends was held In Grantville,
PA, May 4 & 5, 2007 – Our Friends group was represented by Elizabeth
Heim; Lynn Askew represented the board of Snyder County Libraries.
This Institute is an opportunity for members of Friends groups and
library trustees to participate free of charge in many valuable,
informative sessions and panels. Outstanding speakers present topics
of interest and concern to libraries and Friends groups. Networking
and learning opportunities abound where problems and successes may
be shared. The institutes are sponsored by the Office of
Commonwealth Libraries, Pennsylvania Department of Education,
Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries and the Pennsylvania
Library Association. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn,
to become inspired and motivated and to find great ideas.
Pennsylvania Citizens for Better Libraries(PCBL)
Elizabeth Heim
accepted an invitation to join the board of Pennsylvania Citizens
for Better Libraries (PCBL) for a three year term; she looks forward
to the opportunity to advocate for both library users and Friends
groups throughout the Commonwealth. Liz will remain on the Friends
of the Selinsgrove Community Library board for a two year term as
Immediate Past President, a non-officer position and will continue
to serve as editor of the newsletter and to maintain the Friends
website.
We are extremely proud of the achievements of our Friends
group in 2007 and we thank you, our membership, for your continued
support. I would also like to thank all of the member/volunteers who
helped with various Friends events. Last but not least I wish to
thank the Friends board members for their dedication and hard work
throughout the year. Our success has been the result of a
collaborative effort with many contributors. Thank you all once
again.
Respectfully,
Joyce M. Hendricks, President
