Our 2008 Friends of the Selinsgrove
Community Library Crock celebrates transportation along the
Susquehanna River circa 1890. Trains, ferry boats and hot air
balloons all in sight of the Isle of Que are highlighted in this
beautiful scene. A totally new design from our potter was
specifically thrown to highlight the artwork of Rod Ries, local
artist The crock is a stout, dry-good storage crock, 5 1/2" high
and capable of holding a thirsty 1/2 gallon. It is reminiscent of a
low salt shoulder stoneware crock of yesteryear. It has a wide
bottom, and though suitable for sugar or salt, is perfect for
holding utensils or a fistful of fresh flowers. This is a new twist
on an old form sure to be an heirloom! A brochure on the
transportation history depicted will be included with each crock,
thanks to Dr. Donald Housley. Of course this is a numbered, limited
edition crock.
The price of this new design is only $42.00 which includes sales tax. The crocks will be available for delivery in early September. Letters describing this 2008 crock, together with an order form, will be mailed to everyone who has ordered crocks in the past. Order forms are also available at the Selinsgrove Library. Purchasers will be contacted by e-mail or phone when and where crocks will be available for pick-up. Representatives of the Friends will be at the Selinsgrove Street Fair on September 27 near Chestnut Street. Contact: Joyce Bilger 743-5273 or Linda Wieder 743-7348
