Special 2005 Event

One Book:The Killer Angels

One Book:The Killer Angels was a regional project presented by five public libraries to promote community-wide reading and discussion of the same book.  The participating libraries are Degenstein Community Library of Sunbury, Milton Public Library, Montgomery House Warrior Run Area Public Library, Priestley Forsyth Memorial Library of Northumberland and Selinsgrove Community Library.  The book: The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara won the Pulitzer Prize.  It is considered to be the classic novel of the Civil War and is the basis of the movie “Gettysburg”.

Many events were scheduled in connection with this project from July into October 2005.  Some highlights were:

  • book signings at each library by Jeff Shaara (author in his own right*), the son of deceased author Michael Shaara
  • book discussion groups at the library and online
  • a speech by Jeff Shaara (preceded by a reception) at Weber Chapel at Susquehanna University
  • Gettysburg Bus Trip
