Tree Fest of Children's Books 2007

What a great Tree Fest!  Our Fourth Annual Tree Fest of Children's Books was a wonderful event.  So many terrific children's book were chosen  (click here for a list)  An innovation in 2007 was the hosting the library's pre-school story hour at Tree Fest on Wednesday December 5 and December 12.  Selinsgrove Borough Mayor, Pete Carroll, WKOK's Mark Lawrence and police chief Thomas Garlock were among those who read to the children.  Debbie Barrick of Selinsgrove Elementary Libraries brought her wonderful reading dog, Ranger, to entertain the kids.  Click to see picture collages.  More than1050 people visited Tree Fest this year, of which at least 450 were children who came in specially scheduled groups (2nd grade classes from the Selinsgrove Area School District, the library's pre-school story hour, Freeburg Pre-Kindergarten and the Sunbury Y daycare group).  All monies raised at Tree Fest 2007 have been donated to the library and will help fund Snyder County Libraries 2008 Summer Reading Program, which is available to all children in Snyder County.

and the winners are...

1st Place Tree - "On Market Street", created by Seals Den
2nd Place Tree - "Hello, Nittany Lion", created by Robert Cravitz Law Office/Mrs. Cravitz's Second Grade Class
Favorite Wreath -
"Three Billy Goats Gruff" created by The Fulmer's

Congratulations!

Friends of the Selinsgrove Community Library will donate a children's book of the library's choice to the library for their permanent children's book collection on behalf of each of the three winners shown above.  A bookplate will be placed in each book commemorating the decorator's winning place.

To view a list of 2007 decorators and the books they chose, click here.  At the end of Tree Fest, many of the decorators donated the book they chose to the library for the library's collection of children's books.  Follow the link to a list of these decorators.

Each year one of the features of Tree Fest is the silent auction.  A number of decorators allow their creation to be auctioned to the highest bidder in a silent auction.  Visitors can browse Tree Fest and if their favorite tree or wreath is one of those available for auction, they can write a bid in the Tree Fest auction book.  The highest bidder gets to take home the exhibit at the end of Tree Fest.  This feature of Tree Fest not only raises money for the library, but allows visitors to obtain a beautifully decorated tree or wreath for their holiday enjoyment.  Details on the 2007 silent auction.

There are so many people involved in making Tree Fest a success and our thanks go to all those who participated in this terrific event.
