Friends of the Selinsgrove Community Library will donate a children's book of the library's choice to the library for their permanent children's book collection on behalf of each of the three winners shown above.  A bookplate will be placed in each book commemorating the decorator's winning place.

We're pleased to let you know that our Fifth Annual Tree Fest of Children's Books enjoyed another successful year, despite a definite lack of cooperation on the part of the weather, as icy, snowy conditions reduced the number of visitors somewhat over last year.

Despite the weather, we had 775 visitors, approximately 225 of whom were children.  Unfortunately, Selinsgrove Elementary School was forced to cancel five scheduled class visits because of icy conditions.  We're sorry those classes didn't get to visit Tree Fest this year; the kids always seem to enjoy those visits.  We'll hope for better weather in 2009!

Tree Fest has become a favorite community event, and it couldn't happen without the efforts and assistance of a lot of people.  The Tree Fest Committee extends our thanks to the wonderful people who helped make our Fifth Annual Tree Fest a success.  Please click here to see a list of some of those who made this event possible.  As always, our decorators chose some terrific children's books  (click here for a list.

For the second year, the library held their pre-school story hour at Tree Fest on Wednesday December 10th and again on Wednesday December 17th.  On December 10th, Patty Gaugler, Police Chief Garlock and Debbie Barrick and Ranger entertained the children.  Ranger is Debbie's big, wonderful dog who accompanies her to readings to children; the kids adore him.  On December 17th, the readers were Joyce Hendricks, Mark Lawrence from WKOK radio station, and Anne Gates.

All monies raised at Tree Fest 2008 have been donated to the library and will help fund Snyder County Libraries 2009 Summer Reading Program, which is available to all children in Snyder County.

Each year one of the features of Tree Fest is the silent auction.  A number of decorators allow their creation to be auctioned to the highest bidder in a silent auction.  Visitors can browse Tree Fest and if their favorite tree or wreath is one of those available for auction, they can write a bid in the Tree Fest auction book.  The highest bidder gets to take home the exhibit at the end of Tree Fest.  This feature of Tree Fest not only raises money for the library, but allows visitors to obtain a beautifully decorated tree or wreath for their holiday enjoyment.  See details on the 2008 Silent Auction.

There are so many people involved in making Tree Fest a success and our thanks go to all those who participated in this terrific event.  A special thanks to Shirley Rowe, who created such an appealing hand-crafted snowman (click here to see a picture) and donated it to Tree Fest for raffle.  Thanks, Shirley!
