Friends of the Selinsgrove Community Library concluded a successful Tree-Fest of Children’s Books which was held from December 4 – 17 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Selinsgrove.

Votes were sold and a “Favorite Tree” was selected.

The winner was “Hiawatha” written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and decorated the Susquehanna Art Society.

Runner up for “Favorite Tree” was The Very Hungry Caterpillar written by Eric Carle and decorated by the Kemberling family.

A certificate was presented along with a prize of $25 and $15 respectively.

The winner of the “Favorite Wreath” was The Night the Toys Had a Party written by Enid Blyton and decorated by Gerry Shipe and Barbara Abers. It received a prize of $10 and a certificate.

Cash prizes were also drawn for winners from the voters. The $25 cash prize was won by number 399985, the $15 cash prize by number 399587 and the $10 cash prize by number 004035.

If you have one of these numbers: please call 374-0835 to present your ticket and claim your money. You have until December 31, 2004 to claim your prize or it will revert to the library.

Trees and wreaths were auctioned off at the conclusion of the event. The following went at auction: Charlie Brown Christmas ; I Spy Christmas; Harold and the Purple Crayon; The Very Hungry Caterpillar; The Peace Book; The Fire Ca”; Babushka Baba Yaga; The Night the Toys had a Party; The Night Before Christmas; Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone; The Polar Express; Where the Wild Things Are; and The Mitten.

Proceeds from Tree Fest and other Friends projects go to support the Selinsgrove Community Library, and are essential at this time of cut-backs in library funding.

The Tree Fest Committee would like to thank the community for its continued support.
